U16s Match Report: Brentford v Limehouse Laces

12th September 2015

Limehouse Laces U16s kicked off their campaign in the Capital Girls League Div 2 with a promising performance against a strong Brentford side. The home team started brightly but were denied by a heroic save by the in-form Nell. Brentford’s pacy wingers and centre forwards troubled the Limehouse defence, beating the keeper early on in the first half to take the lead, but some solid defending from Emily and Hannah denied the attackers room into the box. The free scoring Brentford attack found the net from distance, and after the interval Limehouse regrouped and planned their next attack. A skillful turn from Beattie in the centre circle saw her meander away from the Brentford midfield and break away into the final third, only the be denied by the quickly back tracking defensive line. Maxine came close shortly after with a powerful effort just outside the box, as Limehouse’s calm passing play came alive. Manni frustrated the forwards with some resilient defending and teamed up well with winger Julia to move the ball up the field. Maxine kept the goals out for the next 30mins with a fine performance in goal, spreading the play out to Ella on the wing who make the Brentford back four nervous with her close ball control and pin point passing. An impressive debut by Annabelle, who shares her time between football and cross country, gave the game some energy with her endless running and some brilliant interplay with the two centre backs. Regardless of the scoreline, Limehouse were not phased and continued to play the full 90 mins as if the game was still 0-0. At the final whistle, the coaching staff at Brentford and the referee both commended the attitude of the players and admired the way they played without being affected by the scoreline. Another testament to our amazing team of girls!

The team unanimously voted Nell as Girl of the Game for not only her heroics in goal (and lovely purple face bruise) but also for her tireless performance as centre back.

The girls will focus on training next week and are back on the 26th away to Young Hackney Belles.
